Smelling good with m. vie Fragrance. And a giveaway, too!

16 March 2012, 15:46

I’ll admit, I have never been a huge perfume wearer.

I’ve always been sensitive to fragrances. Whether it be a stroll through the beauty department at Macy’s or a step inside the doors of a Yankee Candle, I’ve had to run for cover for fear of watering eyes, headache or a sneezing attack of no less than 42,000 body-jerking movements. Not only is it unattractive to flail in public, but I’ve had three children and we all know what could result from sneezing of that magnitude. Needless to say, I’ve avoided fragrance overload at all costs.

But, even with this sensitivity, I WANT to wear perfume. I like smelling nice, because, along with what we all know about having three children and sneezing is akin to what we all know about having three children and showering daily. And, if you tell me that you have three young children and shower every single day, I’d like to give you a hug. In the meantime, I need my hug to smell nice.

I’ve bought varieties of perfumes in the past, of which I could count on less than one hand were wearable for me. I have found myself in struggles of being taken over by scents so strong and overpowering that they could bring an onion to tears–from one tiny squirt out of the bottle. I have never wanted to be that person that you could smell coming through the door before you saw my face (or bottle of wine in my hand), but, rather, that person that you didn’t mind standing next to because she smelled so nice.  I’ve been around the scent-assaulters on many occasions and it’s as painful as the thought is that Snooki is now pregnant. It just doesn’t sit well with me.

So, imagine my anticipation when I opened a bottle of m. vie Fragrance by Midnight Velvet.

{Midnight Velvet is a website that offers quality fashion, jewelry, fragrances and exotic home decor at affordable prices. m. vie (which is the French word for “life”) is a creative expression of beauty and style for the woman who is a confident, unconventional dreamer.}

The first positive sign of unwrapping the box was that I couldn’t smell it OUTSIDE of the box. Which meant it was probably not going to punch me in the face with a scented fist when I did open it (and it didn’t).

I took the bottle cap off, sniffed it, and was instantly hooked. I’m not sure I’m qualified to talk about notes and tones of perfumes, but if I had to describe it with words, I’d say, “IT SMELLED FREAKIN’ AWESOME.”

It was fresh and airy and light and romantic and citrusy and did I mention light? And see how great I am at using perfume-y descriptive words?

If I had to describe how I FELT after I sprayed it onto my neck, I’d say, “like I belong in a long, flowy dress with long wavy hair, outside in the warm sun, twirling around in a field of tall whispering grasses.” And then someone would probably slap me. But I honestly felt that BEAUTIFUL after I put it on and that’s all that really matters in any of these paragraphs or made-up ethereal mind-dreams.

I wanted to get my family and friends’ reactions so I began wearing it every day. On the first day, my sister came over and as she walked by me, she snapped her head back at me and said, “What’s that smell? Do you have a new perfume? Can I wear it?” in the same breath, like she’d just found gold or an Alex & Ani bracelet on the ground. She apparently felt my love for this new beauty find, as confirmed by her return to my house three times after that day JUST TO PUT SOME MORE ON.

About a week later, I went to a girlfriend’s house for a playdate. All was going according to plan, when about half an hour into the morning, she started stepping closer to me, staring at me. Not entirely sure if she saw a piece of food stuck in my tooth or was about to tell me some big life secret, she instead said, “I know this is gonna sound weird, but can I sniff you?” And while I’ve certainly have had much weirder things asked to me (post-college years, circa 2000), I thought it was kinda funny that my friends face was basically one inch away from my neck and chest. Had I actually resembled anything other than a 12 year-old boy in those areas, it may have been a better story to tell. But, regardless of what we looked like, she just kept saying, “You smell so good. What is that?”

The reactions since then have all been the same. Where did I get this? What is it? They love how it smells so fresh. They love that it isn’t too much. They want to get close to my boobs.

Ok, maybe they don’t, but I’ll just run with the idea that they do.

m. vie Fragrance was a hit. I  continue to wear it every day. If you’re looking for a fresh, pleasant-smelling, dreamy new scent, I can say with confidence that this is the one for you. And, the bottle is quite large so it’s an unbelievable value for the low price!

Perhaps the best news is that I’m giving one lucky person their own bottle of m. vie Fragrance!
