Before/After of Mon Chi Chi #3

19 November 2012, 14:38

I sometimes pretend I’m a photographer.

I’ve taken exactly one workshop on shooting in manual from local pro Amy Ro Photography and I’ve taken exactly one editing workshop online from the amazing Amanda Padgett. Someday, it would be wonderful to delve into this hobby more than I do, and to get out of the entry-level camera body, but in the meantime, I’m learning.

And pretending.

Here’s a recent picture of Charlotte that I cleaned up a little after importing from my camera.

Now, if I was a real photographer, I wouldn’t be showing you the comparison using PicMonkey (even though I did the actual edits in Photoshop). And if I was a real photographer, this shot would be much better out of camera and would be much better after editing. It would probably be a lot lighter, sharper and the background would be completely blurred, so that the focus would be entirely on her. And she would probably be smiling, because I’d have some magical trick up my sleeve to keep her from wanting to shoot me every time I take the camera out.

But I’m not a real photographer. Lucky for you, it doesn’t stop me from pretending that I am.

Regardless, I love this little Mon Chi Chi and all of her FACE.

Oh, and this is what it looks like when a real photographer takes her picture.

OMGosh,I love her! What a face! Great job Jen! PS I use PicMonkey everyday, I'm obsessed! :)

  2. liza November 20, 2012

you did that all on picmonkey? you go! i have no idea how to do all that - great job! also, she's still cute even without the photo changes! xo

Oh, Liza.. I may have worded that incorrectly. I did it in Photoshop, but just showed the differences in PicMonkey. :) But PicMonkey reduces resolution, so I meant that it wasn't the best way to show the differences. LOL. :)

Love it! I am learning to take better pictures with my fancy camera, but have NO idea how to use the editing software I have (Photoshop and elements). Like, no clue. *sigh*

  5. Megan (A Baby Makes Four) November 20, 2012

You did a great job! I have no idea how to do any of that stuff, but I'd love to learn someday. Something to add to my bucket list. (By the way, that face...OMG she's beyond adorable.)

Such a cutie pie!! I've gotten lazy with my photo editing, and really need to focus more energy on it! I also love taking pictures, and my husband is always asking "Do you need to take a picture of this?" before doing anything. Thank goodness Avery loves the camera!

Totally stunning! We all love PicMonkey! Do you use lightroom? I am always hearing good things about it from the clicking moms group.

  8. Joanna {Baby Gators Den} November 20, 2012

She is so beautiful! All of you ladies are. I can't wait to see the rest of Amy's pics!
